Rio Grande Valley Human Rights Hearing

In celebration of International Women’s Day more than 100 Latinas from Texas’ Rio Grande Valley shared their stories about the growing reproductive health care crisis in Texas with a group of global human rights experts on March 9 at a women’s human rights tour and hearing sponsored by the Center for Reproductive Rights, National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health (NLIRH), U.S. Human Rights Network, and 10 Texas-based organizations. Included in the group of experts was USHRN board chair Cindy Soohoo, who remarked that the discriminatory laws in Texas are against human rights law.

Participants testified about lack of access to health care, bringing attention to the on-going and worsening reproductive justice crisis in Texas. For more information about the impact of these policies on women's lives, read the report about the hearing and the transcripts of the testimonies from the hearing.
