The US Human Rights Network (USHRN)'s coordinating center is pleased to announce the winners of the U.S. Human Rights Movement Builders Awards 2013. The presentation of the U.S. Human Rights Movement Builders Awards is an occasion to recognize and celebrate six visionary people and one organization building and strengthening the human rights movement at the grassroots level.
This year's recipients inspire us with their courageous and groundbreaking human rights work. They are on the frontlines of struggle, not backing down but constantly moving forward, often against great challenges and odds. Their strength, resilience, and passion challenge each of us to step up our activism, to demand dignity and justice for all here in the United States - to stand up for human rights in the United States.
Award recipients will be honored at the inaugural awards ceremony that will also commemorate USHRN's 10th Anniversary as a network. Award recipients will receive a small cash prize, and their achievements will be highlighted at the awards ceremony, on the USHRN website, and in USHRN communications. The awards ceremony will take place at the USHRN National Biannual Conference, on December 7, 2013 at 8:00pm at the Crowne Plaza Atlanta Perimeter at Ravinia in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Awards Selection Committee considered nominees with a minimum of five years of experience leading grassroots advocacy for human rights in the area of immigration, environmental and climate justice, workers rights, or access to justice, as well as other areas such as racial justice, women's rights, disability rights, and economic, social and cultural rights.
