ICCPR Shadow Report: Toxic Chemicals

United States Compliance with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights

The U.S. Government has failed to address the human rights, particularly the right to life, of those living in and around chemical factories and/or oil refineries. Environmental hazards and toxic exposure may cause extreme, immediate death or slow, long-term effects such as cancers and respiratory diseases. Communities of color, particularly African-Americans, Asian-Americans, Indigenous peoples, Latinos, and low income individuals are disproportionately impacted by constant exposure to toxic chemicals.
