ICCPR Newsletter No. 3: Resources for Shadow Reporting

Welcome to the third edition of the ICCPR Newsletter!

ICCPR Newsletter No. 1: Preparing for the List of Issues Submissions

ICCPR Newsletter No. 2: List of Issues Submissions

ICCPR Newsletter No. 4: 2013 Shadow Report Submissions

In preparation for the in-person review of the U.S. Government on its compliance with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), the USHRN ICCPR Taskforce is coordinating the submission of alternative or shadow reports to the UN Human Rights Committee, which monitors compliance with the treaty. The Committee looks to these reports to get a more complete picture of the U.S.' policies and to gain a better understanding of their impact on the ground. We encourage all social justice groups to participate in this process and to work together in clusters/coalitions to submit joint shadow reports. If you are interested in coordinating or contributing to a joint shadow report, please contact info@ushrnetwork.org

To support your reporting and advocacy efforts, we provide the following important resources for you. A number of these resources are in progress and will be available soon on this site, so please check back periodically for updates. Also, if you have resources that will be useful for others, please share by emailing them to info@ushrnetwork.org

The Committee has requested that NGOs send only a supplement to shadow reports if there are updates to be provided on your issues of expertise. This supplement should be between 1 to 2 pages.

The deadline to submit updates to the UN is February 14, 2014. Updates should be submitted electronically and in hardcopy (20 hardcopies). Reports should be mailed to this address:

Human Rights Committee Secretariat
8-14 Avenue de la Paix
CH 1211 Geneva 10
Switzerland
Attention: Kate Fox/Sindu Thodiyil

Email copies should be sent to Kate Fox at kfox@ohchr.org
